The applicant is a single mother living with her 14-year-old son, who lost his father when he was just five months old. The mother and son have been living independently in Hong Kong, relying on each other for support.
The son suffers from thalassemia and autism, requiring regular medical treatment, and his physical development has been affected by malnutrition.
They live in a small unit of about 100 square feet, and their family finances have always been very tight.
From a young age, the son developed a strong interest in Lego and aspired to use it to build homes for underprivileged families. He participated in a Lego extracurricular class in first grade, where he was very enthusiastic, but his participation was interrupted due to a change of school.
Later, we provided basic funding for him to enroll in a private STEM robotics course and to purchase the necessary applications for that class.
After receiving professional training, the son began participating in various competitions both in and out of school, achieving excellent results multiple times. He even had the opportunity to represent Hong Kong in international competitions, but unfortunately missed out on those opportunities due to family financial difficulties.
As a result, our foundation fully funded his expenses to represent Hong Kong in an international competition, and he did not disappoint us by winning the championship at the "2024 Asia-Pacific Robotics Alliance Competition"!
This case is one of our initiatives targeting individuals with learning needs. We hope that through this assistance, we can provide children with a life-changing opportunity, as academic development is a crucial factor that can significantly influence their future destinies.
