" We became a partner of Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project! "
We are officially certified as a "Jockey Club Age-friendly City Partnership Scheme"!
Yi Shan Asia Charity is honored to announce that we have been awarded the 2024/25 "Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project" Sticker under the "Jockey Club Age-friendly City Partnership Scheme". This recognition is a testament to our dedicated efforts over the past year in promoting age-friendly communities. It further fuels our commitment to implementing age-friendly measures and providing specialized social services tailored to the needs of our elderly.
【 ️Why is an "Age-friendly City" so crucial?】
As Hong Kong transitions into a super-aged society, many elderly individuals face the challenges of living alone and social isolation. Inadequate transportation and public facilities often restrict their mobility and community participation.
In response, we launched the "Root For You" Meal Voucher Program in 2021. Each month, we support 100 elderly individuals, providing each with four meal vouchers. These vouchers can be used at partner restaurants in the Cheung Sha Wan district for designated takeaway lunches. Partnering with the Christian & Missionary Alliance Social Services, this program specifically targets "hidden" elderly individuals. Our goal is to encourage them to reconnect with the community and increase opportunities for social interaction.
【 ️The Rising Number of Elderly Living Alone】
According to 2021 Census data, there are approximately 270,000 elderly individuals living alone in Hong Kong, accounting for 18.5% of the total elderly population. This number is expected to continue rising as the population ages.
To address this, we have also initiated a "Life and Death Education" service project. This program helps participants explore their views and intentions regarding end-of-life issues. It encourages early planning for physical, psychological, and spiritual needs, as well as settling unfinished business in their later years. We invite professionals, social workers, and guest speakers to explain the details of after-death arrangements (such as Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney) and funeral services. By establishing a "Care and Wishes" memorandum with caregivers or family members, we help seniors achieve a life without regrets, conveying practical respect and profound care.
Gratitude and Future Commitment ❤️
We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and all our partners for their trust. Moving forward, we will continue to sponsor diverse charitable projects, providing home-based support and visitation services for the elderly living alone or with frail health. Together, we strive to build a more inclusive community and bring warmth to those in need.
